John Mayer’s Continuum is getting a fresh look nearly 20 years after its September 2006 release. The 12-track album marked a major point in Mayer’s career, bringing blues, soul and pop influences together while putting more focus on his guitar playing and increasingly reflective songwriting.
A new Billboard ranking revisits every song on the album, including enduring favorites such as “Gravity,” “Stop This Train,” “Slow Dancing in a Burning Room” and “Waiting on the World to Change.” The record also includes “Belief,” “Vultures,” “Dreaming With a Broken Heart” and Mayer’s version of Jimi Hendrix’s “Bold as Love.”
Continuum became one of Mayer’s most successful releases and reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200. It also earned major Grammy recognition, including Best Pop Vocal Album, while “Waiting on the World to Change” won Best Male Pop Vocal Performance.
Two decades later, the album remains closely associated with Mayer’s shift toward a stronger blues and soul sound, balancing radio-friendly songwriting with guitar-driven arrangements and more personal themes.
